All in all, I'm fairly happy with how this design ended up. Not sure if I prefer the line drawing to the color rendering, but I do like them both. And I'm really liking the process of doing the in-between stage roughs on the cintiq and then a finished line drawing by hand. The color is both hand and digital and more hand than you might think or is that more digital than you might think. Only my dentist knows for sure....
MUHUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Wow...would you look at that! Very awesome... all those texures and colours.. look at the mixing and shades! very well done my friend! ;)
My first crack at the finished art ended in frustration. So I tried an experiment. I put vellum over top of the sketch and worked oil pastels over the top of it blocking in shapes and form. I paid no attention to details and stayed real loose. I then scanned in the painting and the line drawing separately and hit multiply for the line drawing layer. Then I used pastel brush in Photoshop and floated in some detail color here and there. I also adjusted local colors of the clothes ( not the texture though). And finally adjusted the background. The largest portion of the work was done by hand, but many detail adjustments were done on the cintiq and in Photoshop.
Thanks for the Kudos!
Nice work throughout your blog!
Hi Marcos! Thanks for the kind words! I'm working towards building a character design portfolio...I've got a lot of work to do...! This community is full of extremely talented artists with a lot more experience in this wing of illustration than I...
