As it is for many of us, a day job (and not necessarily a fun one) is needed to keep the heat on and keep food on the table while a dream is being built. I have said day job. I create advertising sketches for product shots including fashion, crafting, home decor... so that the photographers don't blow lots of time and money composing the shot.
It's not glamorous, but I get to draw on a cintiq all day. Many times, I try to find the challenge in the drawing. As in the "evolution of an action" drawings, The ad was built around the model ( at least it was for me) so it was fun to concentrate on her expression and action even though this is basically a product shot for all the goodies on the table and the apron she's wearing. The other challenge was to create a strong silhouette while still showing of the product (apron). Even though the final image cropped out half of the pose, I still think it reads well.
And for giggles, I included a handful of model shots I've done over the last few months...

well at least your day job helps you to improve your skills and keep your chops sharp! these sketches are great, nice compositions and nice lines!
-i am indifferent about gouache, i have only done a couple paintings with the stuff. i guess i like it because: it dries quick, is versatile like a watercolor but can be used thicker with less water creating a nice opaque layer. i like experimenting with getting brush stroke textures.
That it does...compared to when I did most graphic design as a day job ( yuck!)
