Digital Painting Test
So I'm working on a few book cover illustrations that I will paint digitally. So I thought I'd do a test approach using a custom pastel brush I created...
This test is actually over another magazine illustration that I did last year...I tend to save the drawings for posterity sake and for digital tests later on...And i really like drawing on Strathmore board...in fact it's the one thing I don't like about working on a Cintiq...getting the texture drag of the pencil or chalk or paint across the substrate...
Anyways I like the test alot and I think the illustrations are going to look great once they are completed. I'll post those later this week!

Very cool stuff. Can't wait to see the finished product! I really need to start digitally painting.
Thanks Justin! Digital Painting I'm finding, really takes a different set of techniques than regular painting, particularly if you're using Photoshop...but as I go I'm beginning to figure out more and more efficient and user friendly system...
I really like this a lot, the perspective is really cool!
Many Thanks Carolyn! I think it's look a lot better when I get back to it— lot a jobs on the books right now.
If it get's finished I'll post it!
Excellent stuff here! I keep hearing how really different digital painting is to traditional. But at the same time, I've also heard that traditional painting will help our digital paintings? Ultimately I'd like to learn both anyways...just curious how that thinking above works if the 2 processes is indeed "different".
Anyway, great blog here. I'm especially liking your character design portfolio! :)
